Accessibility in the online store

In this article

From June 28, 2025, websites in the EU must be accessible and comply with the rules of WCAG 2.1 Level AA to meet the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Compliance with this regulation depends on several factors: the technical implementation, settings, and design of the online shop.

These requirements also apply to companies in Switzerland and Liechtenstein that offer products and services within the EU. However, we recommend that all companies take the color contrast guidelines for the online shop into account.

Technical Aspects

The e-guma online shop is technically designed to meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines to ensure accessibility. Important measures include keyboard navigation, clear labeling of forms, alternative texts for images, and support for screen readers.

Color Contrast

In addition to technical requirements, design aspects are also important to ensure accessibility. This includes using sufficient color contrast when designing your online shop. For example, text color must have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 with the background to ensure good legibility for users with visual impairments.

To adjust the color contrast, we offer you two options:

  • Option A) You have already adjusted or plan to adjust your website’s color contrast to meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements. We will use your website’s colors for your online shop.
  • Option B) We will adjust the colors of your online shop to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements. This may lead to deviations from your CI/CD to ensure accessibility.

Please let us know which option you prefer.

Accessibility Statement

The EAA requires that an accessibility statement is published on the website. This statement transparently documents how accessibility requirements have been met, what measures have been implemented, and if there are any deviations. Once the color contrasts meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements, we will activate the accessibility statement for your online shop. It will appear on the same page as the legal notice. You can find an example in our demo shop.
